The British College Establishes Pioneering Sustainability Unit to Drive Green Innovation and Education

Kathmandu, Nepal – 10/07/2024 – The British College (TBC) is proud to announce the launch of its groundbreaking Sustainability Unit, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to fostering a more sustainable future through education, research, and innovation. The TBC Sustainability Unit will serve as a hub for green education and entrepreneurship, empowering students, academics, and industry professionals to contribute meaningfully to global sustainability efforts.

Through international recognition, such as  UNESCO Greening Education Partnership and UN Global Compact, TBC aims to cultivate a new generation of leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to tackle pressing environmental challenges. The Sustainability Unit will drive initiatives aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those focused on climate action, green entrepreneurship, and responsible business practices.

“Our vision is to position Nepal as a proactive and responsible player through education in the global sustainability movement,” said Sunita Basnet, Head of Sustainability at The British College. “Through this unit, we’re not just teaching sustainability, but actively generating knowledge, fostering startups, and building industry partnerships that can make a tangible impact in the region.”

Key initiatives of the TBC Sustainability Unit include:

  1. Green Education and Curriculum Development: Incorporating sustainability into all levels of education through innovative curricula and training programs.
  2. Green Startups and Entrepreneurship: Supporting students in developing green business ideas and sustainable social enterprises.
  3. Sustainability Research and Knowledge Generation: Driving cutting-edge research in areas such as climate change, green supply chains, and sustainable business practices.
  4. Capacity Development: Equipping educators and professionals with the skills necessary to embed sustainability into their practices.
  5. Youth Engagement and Awareness Campaigns: Empowering young people through initiatives like capacity-building programs and community outreach efforts.
  6. Industry and Academic Partnerships: Collaborating with global partners to expand the scope of sustainable development initiatives in Nepal.

The launch of the TBC Sustainability Unit is in line with the institution’s broader strategy of integrating sustainability into its educational framework, following its successful BBA: Innovate for Impact project. This initiative has been recognized as a model for integrating SDGs into business education, preparing students to become responsible business leaders and social entrepreneurs.

TBC invites all stakeholders—from students and faculty to industry leaders and policymakers—to collaborate on building a greener, more sustainable future for Nepal and beyond.
