The British College and TRTI/GTTP Nepal Forge a Landmark Partnership in Tourism Education

Kathmandu, February 25, 2025 – In a landmark move to transform Nepal’s tourism education landscape, the Tourism Research and Training Institute (TRTI)/GTTP Nepal and The British College (TBC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster innovation, research, and sustainable tourism practices. This high-impact collaboration aims to empower students, bridge the gap between academia and industry, and position Nepal as a global hub for sustainable tourism.

The signing ceremony, held on February 25, 2025, was attended by Mr. Madan Kumar Baral, President of TRTI/GTTP Nepal, and Mr. Mahendra Raj Kandel, Co-Founder and Executive Director of The British College. The event also included witnesses Mr. Saroj Prasad Pyakurel, Program Director of TRTI, and Mr. Ganesh Paudyal, Head of TBC’s Incubation Centre.

A Vision for the Future

This strategic alliance focuses on creating a dynamic ecosystem for tourism education and research. Key initiatives include:

  • Curriculum Integration: Introducing tourism-focused workshops, guest lectures, and certificate courses at TBC to equip students with industry-relevant skills.
  • National Sustainable Tourism Club: Establishing a student-led club at TBC to promote sustainable tourism, cultural preservation, and entrepreneurship through events and activities.
  • Research and Innovation: Collaborative research projects and publications to address Nepal’s tourism challenges and opportunities, providing students with hands-on experience.
  • Global Exposure: Facilitating internships, field visits, and participation in international tourism forums to give students a competitive edge.

Why This Matters

This partnership is more than just an agreement—it’s a commitment to shaping the future of Nepal’s tourism sector. By combining TRTI’s expertise in tourism research and training with TBC’s academic excellence, the collaboration will:

  • Empower students with practical skills and global exposure.
  • Drive innovation in sustainable tourism practices.
  • Strengthen Nepal’s position as a leading tourism destination.

The partnership will roll out in phases, starting with the establishment of the National Sustainable Tourism Club and introductory workshops. Over the next year, the collaboration will host an annual tourism conference, launch a ‘Tourism Innovation Challenge,’ and facilitate student participation in international forums.
