The British Ambassadors Session on Climate Change at The British College :
On 25th November 2021, Her Majesty's Ambassador (HMA) to Nepal, Her Excellency Nicola Pollitt, visited The British College and delivered a session on Climate Change.
The Ambassador was welcomed to the College by the CEO, Mr Rajen Kandel and the Operations Director, Mahendra Kandel - along with an academic procession, who showed her around the College.
She then delivered a fascinating session on the topic of Climate Change, for the business students at TBC. Throughout her talk, she shared some informative statistics and focussed on COP26, the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference that took place in Scotland earlier this month.
She informed everyone that Sher Bahadur Deuba, Prime Minister of Nepal, attended along with 130 other leaders and made a commitment for Nepal to stop deforestation, protect vulnerable communities from the damages of climate change, and make the country cumulatively carbon neutral from 2022 to 2045, and carbon-negative after that. The Ambassador then urged everyone in attendance to do their part in spreading the word and making the changes required at a local level.
She further highlighted the opportunities that such changes could open up in the world of business for TBC students, especially in the field of Hydro Power, and stated as her main message of the day: “This really matters to you whatever future you choose to go into …whether impacted by it or influential in changing it - it’s important to look at it now … and they're going to be huge opportunities in this field, however, you wish to specialise”.
After the session had concluded, there was a lively question and answer session which gave the Ambassador the opportunity to talk about the effect that climate change has specifically on women in Nepal, and The British Embassies commitment to support Nepal in their mission to become Net-Zero.
The event was a great success and was enjoyed by everyone in attendance. The British College would like to thank Her Excellency Nicola Pollitt for sharing her time and expertise and looks forward to welcoming her again in the future.
